On 15th May, EUD attended a panel discussion, which was hosted by MEP Helga Stevens who is the Co-President of the Disability Intergroup of the European Parliament. The event was began with a private screening of the award-winning short film ‘The Energy Within’ produced by Think-Film Impact Production (TFIP). After which there was a panel discussion on ‘The Impact of Media on Sport, Disability & Human Rights’.
One role of the EU has been to defend the rights of disabled communities globally, which is stipulated by the Charter of Fundamental Rights which prohibits discrimination based on disability.
There had been some discussion regarding the future of funding for athletes with disabilities, and further discussion on the funding of the European Deaf Sport Championships and Paralympics.
We, the EUD, hopes to see improvements when it comes to funding deaf athletes in the EU as well as the rest of the world.
