The European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters (efsli) has, starting on 1st June 2012, a vacancy for 20 hours per week as an Executive Director.
The role of an Executive Director is to report to the efsli Board regularly, having some voice in the development of strategy but being largely responsible for the overall implementation and management of the association.
The Executive Director's working relations are with the efsli Board and the efsli administrative support and project coordinator. The Board has a vision for the organisation and the Executive Director needs to implement this practically. The Executive Director receives continuously suggestions for new activities, initiatives, surveys and needs to prioritise the tasks consulting with the Board.
The Executive Director is responsible for managing and carrying out projects on EU level in cooperation with the efsli board. The projects involve coordinating an EU operating grant and other international projects and activities. In addition, the Executive Director is expected to pro-actively search and apply for additional funding opportunities, such as other EU funds.
The function of the Executive Director is to act as a link between the Board, the efsli administrative support & project coordinator, the AGM, organisation's members, efsli conference and event organisers, other efsli committees and working groups, and stakeholders The job of Executive Director is to deliver agreed tasks on time, within the budget and with the appropriate expertise to assure the highest professional quality.
The Executive Director maintains a close relationship with the Treasurer but has a unique responsibility to report on budget positions according to the approved EU operating grant.
The essential skills of an Executive Director are lobbying, planning, budgeting, estimating, monitoring of deliverables and results, cost and benefit accounting, outcome evaluation and overall management of the organisation, including guidance and supervision of the diversity of events and projects.
The efsli board is looking for an Executive Director for 20 hours per week until the end of 2012. The position might have extended hours during 2012 and afterwards depending on funding possibilities. The person must be a European citizen. The person will not be employed by efsli, but will work on a freelance contract basis. The working hours are flexible and to be determined with the efsli board.
efsli does not have a formal office, therefore the work will need to be carried out independently by the person at their own location and must have their own facilities for teleworking, such as computer/laptop, printer, phone and email. The Executive Director is preferably located in or near Brussels, or is willing to travel approx. every 6 weeks to Brussels. When in Brussels, the office at the European Union of the Deaf will be available. The work will require additional travelling throughout the year.
The skillset that the efsli board is looking for includes but is not limited to:
Indicative remuneration (based on 12 months): 31200 - 36400 euros (incl. taxes) dependent on related experience, skills and contracted hours. The contracted party is responsible for all their taxes, benefits, social security and professional and liability insurance. Costs that are related to carrying out the tasks, such as travel & accommodation, will be covered by efsli.
